Pears in Wine

Pears in Wine
- 4 or 6 pears, peeled, halved, cored. Bosc or Bartlett, both are good, I tend to prefer the latter. The important thing is that they should be ripe but reasonably firm
- 1 cup of red table wine. A little more if cooking 6 pears
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 to 4 cinnamon sticks
- 2 cloves per half pear. You may stick them in the pear or just drop them in the wine
Bring the wine to a gentle boil, add sugar, cinnamon, cloves and pears and let boil gently in covered pot till pears are soft and liquid thickens a bit (10 to 15 minutes??). You may need to turn the pears over to ensure they all have their turn fully immersed in the wine.
